Myra's Story

Meet Myra McLaughlin, a middle-aged alcoholic woman who lives on the streets of Dublin. She has a host of amazing stories to share of a wild past, and one day after waking up in a hostel she decide to tell them, portraying all the characters she talks about to amazing effect. You’ll love the revelations, the hilarity, and the heartbreaking life events that led Myra to this point. The character is played to perfection by the award-winning actor Fíonna Hewitt-Twamley, herself a Dubliner. The role won her a coveted Bobby Award in 2021, Broadway Baby’s top prize for Outstanding Performance after 21 sell-out performances at the Edinburgh Festival’s Palais de Varietie Spiegeltent venue.

Theatre tickets for Myra’s Story take you to a dazzling acting masterclass where the actor portrays all the characters in Myra’s story herself, an unforgettable journey encompassing a multitude of emotions from laughter to tears, joy to despair. Written by the respected Irish playwright Brian Foster, the likeable and vulnerable character is created from a blend of street drinkers he was familiar with in his home town of Derry in Northern Ireland, and the play is based on his former success, Maire: A Woman of Derry. Come along to the Trafalgar Theatre this autumn and fall in love with Myra.

Thought provoking play
The acting of Myra telling her story was amazing and talk at end about homelessness was very thought provoking and meaningful

Outstanding performance with a powerful message
Omg what a very talented lady, amazing! It hits home the true message about homelessness and how everyone in that predicament didn’t choose to be homeless. Made me think as I’ve walked past homeless people with no eye contact and not given them the time of day. Yes I control centtepiint charity but maybe I’ll stop and chat instead. My late mother always said they are somebody’s son or daughter and there for the grace of God go I! I can’t believe how amazing she is portraying so many characters with ease, I was enthralled from the moment it started. Everyone should see this and we all should make the effort to help homeless people, give them time.and hopefully help them.

Powerful and moving story
The very simple set was brought alive with the excellent performance by the solo actress..funny and sad in equal portions ..the story of Myra’s life was brought into very animated detail .
