A Mirror

Sometimes it’s a real challenge to describe a plot. This is one of those times. You’ll enjoy puzzling your way through this one, a play where the main characters are playing more than one role and the setting keeps changing. Basically there’s a subversive play being staged in a location licensed for weddings, without permission, and everyone involved is frightened of being caught. The background to the action is a scary, dystopian dictatorship where the Minister of Culture has the final say, and your stars are Jonny Lee Miller, Tanya Reynolds and Micheal Ward.

Miller was brilliant in Trainspotting. Tanya Reynolds was amazing in Sex Education. Micheal Ward was extraordinary in Top Boy. And they’re all top notch in this new play written by Sam Holcroft and directed by Jeremy Herrin. It wowed audiences throughout its premiere run at the Almeida Theatre, now it’s transferring to the Trafalgar Theatre for early 2024, where it’s tipped to be just as popular. If you like your entertainment sinister, mind-bending and pretty strange, this one’s for you.

Really boring as we lost the train of the play pretty much immediately. L
The actors wee great. But myself and majority of audience hadnt got a clue what was going on. I Iove the west end but you’ve got to be in touch completely with the audience. Kind regards,

Interesting look at modern living
The show was well acted. And we certainly did not guess the twist.

Very well acted, multi layered performance
Great performances from all the key players. Feels quite stagey / hammed up initially, but as the play unfolds you come to appreciate this device ensures you pick up on important points to reflect on later. Very well put together show.

Fully political and amazingly funny
In times of such a dire socioeconomic global situation, coming across a play that actually raises a voice on human liberties and the value of creativity is rare, to say the least. Well this one was exceptional cause it did not fail to remind us that humor and laughter are indeed the greater form of liberty! Exceptional

Brilliant
Amazing acting from all the cast. Clever scenario, keeps you two hours constantly thinking about different fundamental values that considered granted but easily condemned

A must see play. Excellent, intense, funny, sad. All the emotions

Restored my faith
Of the last two theatre productions we’ve attended we left one at the interval and would have done so with the other if there’d been an interval. Every aspect of this absorbing, thought provoking and amusing play was of the highest standard and has restored my faith in theatre.

Evocative theatre with superb cast
Tickets were purchased because they were reasonable. I was surprised to find such an excellent production, well done and thoughtful.

Good acting pity about the play
Had all the elements of a Brechtian like drama but the desire for laughs rather than substance meant that the play never reached its full potential. Johnny Lee Miller was very good but he was not enough to justify the play’s transfer
