The 39 Steps

This is one of the nation’s best-loved movies. It’s also a brilliantly funny stage comedy that leaves you breathless, with all 139 roles played to perfection by just four actors. Back in the West End and sure to sell fast, this time around the fun is directed by Nicola Samer. Richard Hannay is played by The Crown and Bridgerton star Tom Byrne who races through the same dastardly deeds and deadly murders as the book, faithful to the plot. He meets secret agents and seduces devastatingly beautiful women along the way in a performance leaving audiences breathless.

Safeena Ladha plays Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret. Eugene McCoy plays Clown 1 and Maddie Rice is Clown 2. The Understudies are Jacob Daniels and Hannah Parker. The creative team is equally good. We’re looking at designer Peter McKintosh, lighting designer Ian Scott, sound designer Mic Pool and director of movement Toby Sedgwick. The Casting is by Abby Galvin. Described as an ‘astonishing theatrical tour de force’, this play is a feast of drama spiced up with villainy, adventure and pure silliness, once the West End’s longest-running comedy and prepared to score high once more. Excellent.

Excellent show.
We had seen the show first at Cambridge not knowing what to expect and it was so good we wanted to see it again not knowing that it was the same excellent cast as we had seen the first time. Truly excellent show that I would imagine would appeal to most people .

We loved it
How fortunate were we, with only 2 nights in London, to stumble upon this show. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors all worked very hard but gave the impression they were enjoying themselves which made it even better. Would definitely recommend it to all.

This was brilliant. So funny & clever. The 4 actors were amazing. The theatre was lovely. We sat in the middle stalls & had an excellent view. I would thoroughly recommend this show :-)

Pure Theatre
I really loved the show because of it's creative ability to' not only keep me gripped; but to do so many things with so little ... Creativity at it best ... And of course ... It was very funny. Thanks for the memory of a grand day out with my 3 friends who were visiting from Dublin.

Laughter
I enjoyed the show very much. I have seen the two 39 steps films that were made so new the plot but the way this show was performed made me and my companion laugh in the way each actor played their part. The whole show was very funny and a pleasure to watch.

More than 39 laughs
Highly visual, fast moving, wonderful use of props; the ability of three of the four players to slip in and out of different roles is quite remarkable. Suitable for non-English speakers, since it would lose only a little if purely visual.

39 steps to entertainment
Uniqueness was that only four actors presented the entire show with their change of characters , costumes and sets which kept the audience spellbound.

Quirky and entertaining show!
This was nothing like I was expecting, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. If you like slapstick comedy and a good yarn, you'll love this. The small cast worked their socks off, and the Criterion theatre is perfect for the intimate atmosphere it generates. Overall it was excellent value and a cracking night out.
